ESET Remote Administrator Console (ERAC)

ESET Remote Administrator Console (ERAC) installation and configuration FAQ

This article contains Frequently Asked Questions regarding the installation of ESET Remote Administrator Console (ERA Console), and applies to all versions and builds.

The ERA Console is the window to the ESET Remote Administrator Server (ERA Server)–client workstations transmit their data to the ERA Server, and the Console accesses this data from the Server and displays it in an organized way. Without a server running the ERAS service, there is nothing for the ERA Console to connect to. The ERA Console can connect to a server using the server's IP address, node name, or even a canonical name.

By default, no password is required to access the ERA Console. Also note that the ERA Console build and ERA Server build must be the same. While using different builds may give the appearance of a functional configuration, this will ultimately result in system problems.

Why won't the installer run?

Either the download is corrupted (not complete) or the Console package you are trying to install is not compatible with the server's operating system. Reference our download page here to verify that you are using the appropriate installer for your operating system. Also, make sure the download finishes without error before attempting to install.

The ERA Console installer runs, but does not finish and fails without displaying any error messages.

This scenario indicates that the user performing the installation has insufficient permissions. The ERA Console and ERA Server must be installed as Administrator and not as another account with Administrator “privileges”.

If you are already logged in as Administrator, you can gather additional information on installation problems by creating specialized error logs. Click here for step-by-step instructions on creating these logs and sending them to Customer Care for analysis.

I have successfully installed ERA Console, but it will not connect to the ESET Remote Administrator Server. Why?

During the installation of ESET Remote Administrator, the nod32.lic license file is requested. If a corrupt or invalid license file is uploaded during installation, the ESET Remote Administrator Server service cannot start. This service must be started and remain running for the ERA Console to connect.

Downloading the license file using a web-based email client such as Yahoo or Gmail can corrupt the file. To verify that your license file is valid and that the ESET Remote Administrator Server service is running correctly for ESET Remote Administrator 2.0.x, click here. If you are using ESET Remote Administrator 1.0.x, click here.

If the service stops and displays an error message, please review sections 2.1.3 – 2.1.6 in the ESET Remote Administrator manual for additional troubleshooting steps.

(If you choose not to upload the nod32.lic file when installing, ESET Remote Administrator will remain in trial mode and accept connections from a maximum of two client workstations)

Why am I being prompted for a password to access the ERA Console when I open it? I never created one.

If you did not create a password to restrict access to the ERA Console, just leave the Password field blank and click OK.

I have successfully installed the ERA Console, but when I connect to the server and use no password as stated in the manual, it will not connect. Why?

It's likely that the ERAS service is not running on the server. Also, verify that the server IP address (File → Edit Connections) you entered is correct.

When I open the ERA Console and try to connect to the server using the server name, it will not connect. Why?

In this case, we recommend that you connect using the server's IP address (File → Edit Connections). This will ensure a successful connection even if there are DNS or network routing configuration problems.

I have successfully installed ERA Console, the ERAS service is running, I used the server's IP address to connect, but it fails to connect without displaying any error messages.

Verify that the ERA Console build and the ERA Server build are the same. There are two parts to ESET Remote Administrator, the ERA Console and the ERA Server “service”. Both must be the same build in order for them to function correctly and utilize all new features available. As of today’s date, the ERA Console and ERA Server (service) build is 2.0.107.

I installed the ERA Console on a different computer from the ERA Server, but it will not connect. Why?

Try to connect using the server's IP address. This will ensure a successful connection even if there is a DNS or other network routing problem. Also, verify that the communication between the ERA Console and the server's port number is not being blocked or inhibited from connecting by a firewall, router or other network or gateway security device.

I have successfully installed the ERA Console and I am connected to the server. However, I do not see any clients in the client list–it says “No data in this pane”. Why?

This is most likely because an installation package has not been created and pushed to client workstations. For information on creating installation packages and pushing them to client workstations, please see section 6.2 and 6.3 of the ESET Remote Administrator manual. Also, make sure that all client workstations which have an ESET security solution installed on them are pointing to the ERA Server.
I think the install went well, but how do I know that I have successfully connected to the ERA Server?

Please look to the bottom-right corner of the ERA Console; if a successful connection has been made to the ERA Server, you will see the word “Connected” in blue. If not, you will see the word “Disconnected” in red.

I made some changes to my server and to the ESET Remote Administrator Server service, and then restarted it. When I toggle back to the ERA Console, nothing is available. Why?

Stopping and restarting the ESET Remote Administrator Server service will disconnect the ERA Console from the ERA Server. Click File → Connect from the ERAC main menu to reconnect.
